Perry's attempts to gain popular recognition were unsuccessful. Before new material was released the two major labels signed, then were able to drop Perry. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title track was a jolly and sly track that received little interest. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism with a sharp edged electro-pop rhythm. A few critics accused it as a sly reference to homosexuality, while others claimed the song's sexually explicit lyrics were designed to attract men with fantasies.
