Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree from the department of English literature. Mitchell began her career with KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. In 1976, Mitchell was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). Within two years she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on at the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. She was made the chief White House correspondent in 1992. And chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a part of the panel at the 1988 Presidential Debates, which featured George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) recognized Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's very first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. The time span covered both Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered a wide range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. She also went on numerous trips with President Reagan for summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
